What is Sound Garden? Is it a garden for children?

Sound Garden @IME has 11 wonderful musical installations made with stone metal and wood where you touch, hear and experience and learn the principals of sound.
No. it is not a traditional garden with plants and flowers or musical lights, but it is to do more with nature and origin of sounds from natural things.
People of all ages can play with the installations; but kids below 6yrs need to be monitored.

The Sound Garden will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM including all public holidays. Monday is a weekly holiday.

No. Everyone is welcome. Children below 6 have to be closely monitored by adults. The installations are stone and metal structures. There are many sharp edges in the sound garden. We do not take responsibility for your children’s safety.

Yes. We would encourage you to touch, hear and experience the Sound Garden. But, you will have to handle it carefully so that others are also able to enjoy the musical installations in future.
Below are some of the dos and don’ts of playing on the musical installations.
1. Do not touch the metal parts of the mallets to the instruments
2. Do not hit it too hard. There will be an attendant to assist if you are in doubt.
3. Do not allow the children to run around. They may get injured. The installations are stone and metal structures. There are many sharp edges in the sound garden. we do not take responsibilities for your child’s safety

We have parking only for a few cars. The others have to park on the road.
We have rest rooms for men and women.
IME café is open from 11AM – 6pm.

The cost of the tickets for anyone above six years is Rs. 100/- Entry for children below 6 is free .

1. The school students with staff should reach here by 10.15 am ( Sound Garden timing 10 am – 5pm)
2. A  letter from school on letter head is expected with all details.
3. We are charging Rs. 25/- per students and for teachers/non-teaching staff its free.( payment is accepted in cash or DD in favour of INDIAN MUSIC EXPERIENCE TRUST)
4. We also have a Cafe at IME; incase you want any snacks you have to inform in advance.
5. We also provide space to kids if they get their snacks box along.
6. If you have more than 100 children, they should come in groups of 50-60 children on consecutive days.
7. School should inform us atleast a week before their visit.

1. Architecture Students/Collages need to take prior appointment to visit Soundgarden & Museum.
2. Architecture Collage students and teachers will be charged Rs. 100/head for Sound garden and museum tour.
3. It is mandatory to get permission letter from collage/institution on letterhead having details of the students visit & purpose of visit.
4. We also share plans of the museum with students on prior information.
5. Photography allowed in Soundgarden and not inside the museum.
Sound Garden Rental:
1. Sound garden can be booked for Birthday Parties.
2. Rental for the space is Rs. 10,000 +18% GST.
3. Number of invitees should not exceed 35 in number.

1.IME permits still and video photography for non-commercial use only in the sound Garden. Photography of fine art is prohibited.
2. If photos are for some purpose like newspaper, magazine etc. you need to a prior appointment.

This museum is about 50,000 sq feet . The time spent completely depends on the visitor. We have had people who have gone through the museum in about an hour while we have had visitors who have spent the whole day. We do have a cafeteria that serves lunch. To have a unique unforgettable experience of the museum and Sound Garden, it is advisable to visit the museum as a full day tour.

There are 9 exhibit galleries with music ranging from traditional to contemporary. You can explore stories about iconic songs and music makers through computer interactives story boards touch screens and marvel at the beautiful musical instruments and artifacts on display, and create your own music. Traditional or contemporary, young or old, IME has something for everyone.

Eliminating barriers to accessibility within the Museum is of paramount importance to us. IME can be enjoyed by all. We have had intellectually and visually challenged and also the hearing impaired as visitors. The museum is equipped with lifts and ramps which facilitate wheel chair movement. Parents with infants are allowed to carry a diaper bag into the museum. We also have a changing room for breastfeeding mothers that can be opened on request.

Yes. You can visit the musically themed IME store to take home something to remind you of your visit. From fridge magnets to unique bookmarks to T-Shirts, you will be sure to find that perfect souvenir gift. The store has specially crafted music themed merchandise designed by a well known designer Michael Foley

Yes there is limited parking space in the museum's basement parking area. However when it is full, You will have to find parking outside of IME.

The luggage can be deposited at the luggage counter behind the box office.

No. Snacks and beverages including water are strictly prohibited inside the museum. Drinking water is available on every floor. Trash cans are provided at the entrance for visitors to dispose any food or beverages before entering is strictly prohibited to smoke in the galleries and within the museum premises. Washrooms are located on each floor. The IME café provides a host of delectable options for small gatherings. For larger events, our catering partner is the award-winning WoodRoseClub which is right opposite IME, and is well-known for handling exclusive events from corporate gatherings to weddings.

Yes you can, but you will be missing out on the wholesome experience of the museum.

Yes. Guided tours are conducted for groups (larger than 10) and school groups by trained volunteer-guides. These have to be booked in advance, and are based on availability of guides.

The school students along with staff must reach IME premises by 10:15 AM

  • A letter from the school on their letter head must be provided prior to the visit, with number of students and staff visiting, date of visit.
  • There is a cafe` at IME. If you need bulk packages of lunch/snacks, prior intimation is necessary.

  • For school groups, we charge Rs.100/- per head for museum and sound garden tour. For an exclusive Sound Garden tour, we charge a nominal fee of Rs 50/- per head
  • Payment is accepted in cash/card or DD in favor of INDIAN MUSIC EXPERIENCE TRUST

  • We allow students from grade 4 onwards for both museum and Sound Garden
  • Kids below grade 4 are allowed to visit only the IME Sound Garden
  • For Grade 4 and Grade 5, the teacher-student ratio be 1:10 and above Grade 5, it must be 1:20. If the number of accompanying staff are more, kindly go for regular or group tickets as per rules.

  • Total time required by school students to experience the Museum & Sound Garden is 3-4 hours, for a batch of 80 students.
  • Maximum number of students per visit per day should not exceed 80.
  • Senior students are not allowed to take their mobiles inside the museum as it hinders the experience. Only teachers may carry mobiles with them.
  • We  provide space to have food if they get their snacks / lunch box along.

Architecture students can definitely visit the museum. Only when you visit the museum, we will be sharing the soft copy of the floor plans by email. You are expected to submit your project report to IME once you complete the same.

People of all ages can play the installations; but kids under 6yrs adult supervision.

There is no age limit to have an exhilarating experience at the Sound Garden. However, we advise children below the age of 6 to be under adult supervision to ensure safety of their children from the metal installations with sharp edges.

IME is a not-for-profit organization run by IME trust. We run on donations made by public. We have various donation slabs. Please visit this link Support Us to know more about supporting IME by donating, Volunteering and becoming a member.

Learning center @ IME offers quality education in classical vocal, instrumental and dance forms. Our tailor-made diploma courses ensure children take part in engaging lessons, activities and games making the entire learning experience an exhilarating musical journey. The diploma will be awarded based on assignments and the focus will be on building the student’s portfolio.

The learning center was founded in 2016 and have presently over 125 students pursuing different streams of music and dance. The faculty has a wealth of experience in teaching and performing. IME being a museum coupled with a well-documented music archive and also having opportunities for performances will give an all-round exposure to music students. The structured and expert faculty teaching is backed with a smart, app based home practice tool to ensure your learning progress is expedited.

Students completing 6 are eligible to apply for the IME Music Diploma.

The IME Music Diploma is a 5 year program consisting of 10 semesters. On successful completion of the 10th semester, the students will receive the Diploma Certificate.

Each semester consists of 36 learning sessions which includes 5 theory sessions, with each session having a definite learning plan and outcome.

The assessments will be continuous and diverse. The assessment tools measure a student’s knowledge at a given time and are of three main types: Observations, Portfolios and Tests (both singing and theory).

The teacher-student ratio averages 1:10

For the new learners, there is a one-time Registration Fee of Rs. 1000/- This would be paid at the time of admissions.
For the tuition fees, there are two options:

  • A quarterly payment option where the semester fees can be paid in two equal installments.
  • A one-time payment option to pay the entire semester fees. With this option, you are entitled to a discount of Rs. 2000/-.

The Admissions Office starts accepting applications from 25th April till the 20th of May 2019.

Yes. All students, even those currently enrolled at IME LC, must fill the application form.

There is no dress code. Students can be casual. However, we would urge you to maintain a certain sense of decency and decorum expected of any institution.

Fees once paid is not refundable under any circumstance.

The Admissions Office accepts one-time registration fee while enrolling. The following modes are payments are accepted:

  1. Cheque
  2. Credit Card
  3. Online Payment

If a child is leaving school, a written notice must be given to the Admissions Office before the commencement of every term.

The student will be assessed and will be admitted to the appropriate semester.

All the lesson recordings will be provided in an Android app where the notation, lyrics, audio recording would all be available in one place. In addition, the students shall have various facilities to ease their learning in terms of practicing the lessons in any pitch, any tempo, line-wise etc. and finally submit the recording for teacher’s review.
